![]() You will just have to trust your aftermarket pump suppliers. Unfortunately, I don't have any easy way of identifying high flow, high pressure Saginaw pumps. (Even the light weight small pumps produced by Saginaw can have the necessary flow (and pressure) capabilities of the big Saginaw P-pump for nearly all passenger applications.) You can't tell the pump flow by the outside features of the pump. This complete kit includes a 60 amp electric motor unit, a prewired control module, and all the necessary hardware for installation. EPAS Power Steering Kit for Chevrolet F/X body vehicles. The amount of flow per revolution from the pump is controlled by the machined contours and thickness of the cam inside the pump and also by the pump and crankshaft pulley ratios. 1969 Camaro, Firebird EPAS Performance Electric Power Assisted Steering Kit w/ Manual Adjustment Controller. Otherwise, a pump with a larger capacity (more flow with each revolution of the pump) is required. Sometimes replacing the discharge fitting with one that has a larger throat, will fix the problem. If you are driving slowly in a big open parking lot and you quickly whip the steering wheel as if you were trying to avoid something in your way, if you abruptly loose power assist when you try this steering maneuver, then you need more flow from the pump. ![]() TEST TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT PUMP FLOW BTW, hold the flow control valve between pieces of wood as you remove the hex nut so that you don't damage the VERY PRECISION outside diameter of the valve. If you have sufficient pressure to reach full lock then you have all the pressure you need. (This is one of the few times that you actually require maximum pump pressure.) Then you should try and remove a shim or shims from the under the hex nut (the nut with the screen) on the back side of the flow control valve. If you have the car at idle, car stopped, foot on the brake, and you find that your steering suddenly feels like manual steering at near full lock turn THEN you need more pressure from the pump. TEST TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT PUMP PRESSURE Adding or removing shims from the flow control valve that is directly behind the discharge fitting on the backside of the pump will only increase or reduce the total pressure that the pump can produce. The amount of maximum pressure that your power steering pump can produce is controlled by a check ball inside a very precision flow control valve inside the pump.
